The Unity Skate Park committee approached Ambient Film Production in the hopes of assembling a fundraising video for a much needed skate park in Turner’s Falls, Massachusetts. Turner’s has seen better days and the youth would benefit greatly from a positive, recreational outlet such as this. Bryan Dolan (a driving force behind the committee) invited us to an impromptu skate park they had set up in what was basically an alleyway in downtown TF. With the help of master designer Todd Verlander we packed up and headed to the site to get interviews and really just scratch the surface regarding what these guys are up to and the good they are doing.
Now this was intended to be a much longer and larger piece for Kickstarter.com but Bryan notified me that the B.Good Family Foundation, whose mission is “to use micro-grants to enable individuals to make positive change in our community”, was having their fast approaching contest and that a 60 second (max) video submission was needed ASAP. So the challenge was to cut down hours of footage and try to convey their message as clearly and quickly as possible.
Voting wrapped up and they didn’t get the grant. Disappointing yes, but that wasn’t going to stop these guys... and a couple weeks later Bryan got a call from the B.Good people saying that they loved their cause so much that they were going to award them $4,000 anyway! Great news and one step closer to reaching their goal.
So a full length video may or may not ever be made or even needed.
Although it might be worth it just to see Bryan wiping out, courtesy of the GoPro.
But I will keep this blog updated with any news.
I also wanted to included some of Todd’s great photographs from the shoot.
And here are some 4K screen grabs from some of the unused footage.
